Dr. Freedman grew up in New England and attended public high school. He earned his Bachelor of Arts degree at Bowdoin College in Maine, where he was pre-med and majored in mathematics. Organizing in a year’s interim following college, he pursued graduate training in computer science and business, earning a Master of Science in Engineering at the University of Pennsylvania and a Master of Business Administration at the Wharton Graduate School. He then entered medical school at the University of Massachusetts, graduating with the Doctor of Medicine degree in 1981. Internship followed in surgery at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania and was continued at the University of Kentucky, where he was Chief Resident in Surgery. His Plastic Surgery training began at the University of Texas and continued at the Mayo Clinic, in Rochester, Minnesota, where he was a Plastic Surgery Fellow and Chief Resident Associate in Plastic Surgery. He specialized further with fellowship training in Reconstructive Microsurgery at the Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center, in New York City. Dr. Freedman is Board Certified in Plastic Surgery and holds the Certificate of Added Qualification in Hand Surgery. He is licensed to practice in the State of New York (177419) and held licenses in the states where he trained, namely Pennsylvania, Kentucky, and Minnesota. His clinical interests lie in cosmetic surgery, reconstructive plastic surgery, and hand surgery. His current academic appointment is Assistant Clinical Professor of Surgery at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine. His awards include being named a James Bowdoin Scholar in college, the Dean’s Merit Fellowhip at the University of Pennsylvania, Graduation with Distinction at the Wharton Graduate School, the Resident Teaching Award at the University of Kentucky Medical Center, and the Best Surgeon Teacher Award, State University of New York Health Sciences Center. Current hospital appointments are as follows (alphabetical): Bellevue Hospital Medical Center, Day Op Center, Long Island Jewish Medical Center, New York Hospital Medical Center of Queens, North Shore University Hospital/Manhasset, North Shore University Hospital/Glen Cove, ProHealth Ambulatory Surgery Center, and Winthrop University Hospital. He is a member of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, the Nassau County Medical Society, the Medical Society of the State of New York, the Staff Society of Long Island Jewish Medical Center, and a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons.
