The Green Creek Methodist Episcopal Church was organized in 1850 by a group of Methodists who saw the need for a church in their community. As a result of much sacrifice and effort, a place of worship was constructed on the lot were it now stands. It was just one room, heated by a wood stove and lighted by lamps. Later the vestibule and belfry were added; the height of the roof raised. The original hanging oil lamp, in the center of our sanctuary, was eventually converted to electricity. It remains an object of beauty, supplemented by our side wall lamps. 386 Route 47, Green Creek NJ 08219 Phone: (609) 889-0474http://www.greencreekumc.org

The Millington Baptist Church was formed by members of the Mt. Bethel Baptist Church seeking to start a sister church across the river. During the fall of 1850 and the spring of 1851 the church at Mr. Bethel, under the pastoral care of Rev. E. C. Ambler, was blessed with the most extensive revival ever know in this section. A portion of the members of the Mt. Bethel Church met at Pleasant Valley School on May 2, 1851. At that time it was decided to organize a new church. 520 King George Road, Basking Ridge NJ 07920 Phone: (908) 647-0594http://www.millingtonbaptist.orgmbc@millingtonbaptist.org
Our original charter was a legal document drawn up on June 6, 1853, and filed with Somerset County on June 8. An original of that document still exists in our possession. The Methodist Church in Bernardsville was already in existence at the time that Bishop Edmund Janes assigned our first itinerant preacher. That pastor, William Day, was also responsible for the Pleasant Plains Methodist Church located in the area we now call the Great Swamp. Our first membership was small with only 12 members originally recorded. William Day was expected to ride by horseback between his two churches. Details are sketchy about the logistics of Sunday services, but we know that this arrangement stayed in place for many years and through several of our earliest preachers. 22 South Finley Avenue, Basking Ridge NJ 07920 Phone: (908) 766-1108http://www.bjumc.org/home.phpbjumc@aol.com
