The Music Center is the result of a merger in 2000 that brought together three established arts agencies, all former member agencies of the United Arts Council: the Battle Creek Symphony Orchestra and its Community Music School; the Battle Creek Boychoir and Girls' Chorus; and the Community Chorus and its Pops Ensemble. It was the ultimate collaboration, allowing for the sharing of not only human resources, programming, and equipment, but also the new facility at KCC. The facility was developed in partnership with the college and opened in September of 2003. Two new programs, a second campus for the Community Music School in Hastings, and the I.M.P.A.C.T. program, are in their fifth and third years respectively. The program is housed at Ann J. Kellogg School in partnership with the Battle Creek Public Schools. 450 North Avenue, Battle Creek MI 49017 Phone: (269) 9631911 http://www.musiccenterscmi.com
A contemporary harpist and singer, Onita Sanders is a visual and aural delight. Her vast and eclectic repertoire, is expertly performed either on a ebony, blond, gold, or folk harp. From 2 to 2000 all have been enthralled by her music on the acoustic to acoustic electronic harp. Her tasteful handling of rhythm and special effects, can make her sound like a trio. Whether it is 150 feet in the air at a marina or in the largest hall, amplification is always available for herself as well as the client. Her love for playing in or outdoors, her engaging personality, her beautiful and embracing lyric voice, all combine to make her a favorite with those who have been charmed by her music. Onita Sanders graduated from Cass Technical High School. She received a B.S. in Education from Wayne State University. My vast repertoire is constantly being enlarged. We are an auditioned chorus of about 50 men and women from West Michigan who sing classical choral music from the Renaissance to today. Some of us are professional musicians, but many of us have more informal training. All of us volunteer because we want quality and variety in our music making. We are an equal opportunity, non sectarian organization that performs in a variety of locations. Our niche in the musical life of West Michigan is to acquaint ourselves and our listeners with great choral works that are rarely performed. We help to provide West Michigan with a greater variety of musical performances and innovative programming. In addition, our streamlined focus and schedule allow participation by people who cannot commit to other choruses with more extensive concert seasons, but who want a quality experience. 6242 Acropolis Drive Southeast, Grand Rapids MI 49546 Phone: (616) 5757464 http://www.grcantatachoir.org
